My Kilometres for Kids challenge is dedicated to the celebration of my son, Charlie and Miles
Support Alexandra and Rachel raise money for Starship Foundation this March
This March Alexandra and Rachel will be walking 85 kms to support and raise money for Starship Foundation and the Starship Air Ambulance.
When Alexandra’s waters broke when she was 30 weeks pregnant with her twin boys, Charlie and Miles, she was told she wouldn’t be able to give birth in Tauranga due to their early gestation. For the next couple of days we waited for the news of an available bed at a hospital with a Level 3 Neonatal unit, and were told if this did not happen in time then the twins would be born in Tauranga and airlifted to a unit after the fact. This could have been to any Level 3 unit in the country including Starships neonatal unit via the Starship Air Ambulance.
This was a scary and uncertain time for Alexandra and her family, but knowing there were services such as the Starship Air Ambulance available and Level 3 units that were equipped to care for the twins brought them some reassurance.
Thankfully, a bed became available at Waikato Hospital the day before the twins safely arrived so Starships services were not required.
However, these are services that many families in New Zealand do rely on and they are counting on our support. That's why we will be giving it our all this March to help keep the Starship National Air Ambulance flying 24/7.
We are completing this challenge in honour of Alexandra’s brave twin boys who spent a week in Waikato’s neonatal intensive care unit and five and a half weeks in Tauranga’s special care baby unit and are now thriving.
Please support us this March by donating now to help save the lives of Kiwi Kids.
