Lliam

My Kilometres for Kids challenge is dedicated to the memory of my sibling, Lliam

I’m taking on a challenge this March – I'd love your support!

I'm taking on a month-long fitness challenge to help support some of the sickest children in Aotearoa - those in Starship Hospital. I have a deeply personal push for this one as Starship played a big part in the childhood of my older brother, Lliam, who needed their specialist care on several occasions. Lliam was born with Downs Syndrome and also Eisenmenger's Syndrome, which is a rare, life-threatening heart condition present from birth. Two holes in his heart caused blood to flow in reverse for years, damaging his lungs and preventing enough oxygen from reaching his body. This made everyday activities exhausting and seriously limited Lliam's quality of life. Any time he required medical intervention, it became a big deal that went beyond the services of our local physicians. Starship was an incredible support to my brother and parents both during these times. Sadly we lost Lliam in 2007, at 22 years old but he is still very much a large presence in our family.

Your donation supports the incredible staff at Starship to provide specialist treatment and the wraparound care that makes some pretty scary times for these kids and their families a lot less scary. Please donate now to help this incredible organisation continue working to support the lives of Kiwi kids and their families - we need it more than ever.

My Updates

Waihi Beach womble

Saturday 14th Feb
She’s overcast, rainy and humid as all heck but a beach walk was not too bad with husband and dog in tow.

Had the Redwoods to ourselves

Wednesday 11th Feb
Super quiet walk in the Redwoods/Whakarewarewa with Murph this morning, beautiful sunshine and cicada song.

Overcast Trigg walk

Tuesday 10th Feb
A good mission up the Trigg track at Waipa with a friend + Murphy today. I’m impressed the pup managed the incline (and that I did too to be honest…).

3 dog womble for Wednesday

Wednesday 4th Feb
Much cooler forest mission with another friend this morning, got rained on, dogs had a swim, good catch ups and chats.

Waipa womble with a friend

Tuesday 3rd Feb
Best activity after a hectic school drop - getting some movement, fresh forest air and friend catch ups in!

Saturday Whakarewarewa walk

Saturday 31st Jan
Whole family morning outing in the beautiful Redwoods - very lucky to have this on our doorstep!

Morning dog walk + grumpy minions

Friday 30th Jan
Today was a very energetic dog, a very argumentative 8yr old and a “my legs hurt, I’m tired” 6yr old. But we got there!!

Scion dog park womble

Wednesday 28th Jan
2 x kids and 1 x dog makes for a slow walk but a lot of exploring! 2.8km before the serious complaining kicked in from the oldest.
