My Kilometres for Kids challenge is dedicated to the celebration of my son, Carter

I'm running for a cause close to our hearts

I’m taking on the challenge, Kilometres for Kids, to help keep Starship’s National Air Ambulance flying to children across the country who are critically ill or injured.

Carter's first flight to Starship Children's Hospital was at just 3 days old and it is so important we support these services during these unprecedented times.

If you can, please donate to help me raise money for this incredible service, the only flying Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in Aotearoa. It’s on call 24/7 – and a specialist flight crew can be in the air in a matter of minutes.

Donate now to help save the lives of Kiwi kids.

Carter's 10!

Sunday 8th Mar

Yesterday we celebrated Carter’s 10th birthday (officially it’s this week).

A big crowd came together to play, eat cake, and celebrate Carter. And of course I wasn’t allowed to say anything mushy because that would be sooooo embarrassing!

So I’ll say it here instead…

When I look back on the years of Carter’s life, I really can’t fathom what we have survived.

Since Carter had his long-awaited ASD repair at Starship last year, he has been like a completely new son. His energy levels, behaviours, and mental growth have created an entirely new chapter of parenting. His personality is really starting to shine through, and I’m learning to reframe my own thinking so I can understand him more and more.

Without Starship’s support over the years, we would never have come this far. They literally saved his life in 2019 and have now given him a completely new lease on life.

The amazing efforts from all the auxiliary support roles that funding helps with are the reason that, despite the stressful and torturous situations Carter is often in at Starship, he still thinks it is the most magical place and loves going there.

Just writing this makes me cry, so I know there is still so much more to learn, cry about, and work through. But I am just so thankful for all the support over the last ten years. Our medical system, and the people who work in it, have been more than amazing.

Please donate to help these services continue. I’ve seen some seriously hellish stories from countries with very different health systems.

Despite it all, things could’ve been worse, huh?
