I’m taking on an epic challenge this March – and I need your support.

I'm taking on a month-long fitness challenge to help keep the Starship Air Ambulance flying and to help save the lives of sick and injured children all over Aotearoa. Will you donate to support my challenge, and help take my fundraising tally sky high? The Starship National Air Ambulance is New Zealand's only flying Paediatric Intensive Care Unit. It's on call 24/7. A specialist paediatric flight crew can be in the air in a matter of minutes. This is often the only way a seriously ill or injured can get to Starship. But they're counting on your support. That's why I'll be giving it my all this March to help keep the Starship National Air Ambulance flying 24/7. Will you support me? Donate now to help save the lives of Kiwi kids.

Myself and a couple of friends will be running 120km each over the course of March. That’s basically 4km a day!!

As many of you know I looked after a 2 year old boy with Allen Hernon Dudley syndrome for two years just before he was sent to starship hospital to receive the medical attention and care that he required.

For those who don’t know what Allen Hernon Dudley syndrome is, it is also known as MCT8 deficiency however this syndrome is a rare x linked genetic disorder primarily effecting males caused by males in the MCT8 gene. This means it stops the thyroid hormone going to the brain this then leads to severe intellectual disabilities, motor problems and issues such as hypotonia, spasticity, and poor muscle growth, this means speech delays, and obviously abnormal thyroid activity.

Symptoms this wee boy in specific experienced were seizures and I’m not talking 1 or 2 a day he could have easily 20+ on a bad day, this wee boy was tube feed, poor muscle growth and definition which lead to him being immobile.
